| Description: | The Chumash Museum features exhibits of artifacts and life among the ancient Chumash in the museum and village. Nature hikes, school tours and special events take place within the 300 year old oaks. The Chumash Indian Museum offers students the rich history of the Chumash people. Students travel back in time, beginning with the extensive museum exhibits, continuing to the game field where they play the game Ma'pon (rabbit game) and visit the "Aps (houses). The two and one half hour program includes stories and songs of the Chumash people. Our guided nature hikes are open to the public by reservation on Saturdays and Sundays. Special weekly hikes may be scheduled with advance notice. Please call first to make reserveations. There is a 10 person minimum necessary to schedule a hike. You may join an already scheduled hike. Please call first for availability.The fee for the hike is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. Hikes begin at 10:00A.M. sharp (unless other arrangements are made) and are approximately 2 1/2 hours long. It is recommended that you wear long pants and comfortable walking shoes. | ||
